[okay out of everything he could have said, that is the last thing he was expecting. he takes several seconds to just stare at his brother, mouth agape, before exploding into sound and gestures and what]
WHAT!? When?! Last night?! Did you invite her to your inn room?!
[oh god this is so hard. the smile on his face just... fades. and he swallows, because he's nervous and he doesn't like that tadashi is legitimately bothered by anything about him. he wants him to be proud of who he is and what he does in life. this isn't... that.]
[ but he is proud. and he understands, or thinks he does, as much as he can. hiro's life is his own, and maybe it scares the socks off of tadashi, but if he had to trust the city with anyone? it'd be with hiro and their friends.
he had always known his little brother would do amazing, world-changing things -- he had just never imagined that even that scope would be far too small for him.
so, yes. tadashi is proud. terrified and a little nauseated and vaguely sad that he won't be there for any of it, but all of that is absolutely dwarfed by the pride. ]
[surprise tadashi, he hugs back. because he kind of needed it too. you are going to have to realize eventually that you are both idiots who need physical reassurance.]
[ there's nothing dismissive about tadashi's tone. he isn't even pretending, now - instead, he's just sitting down on the bed so he can make the hug a little less awkward. ]
[and when he does that, hiro just presses his face into his shoulder because he's not sure if the waterworks are gonna stop. he's keeping them under wraps pretty well, though.]

[he's just gonna take an apple.]
Thanks.

[ he takes a seat on the bunk, next to hiro but with space between them. some nervousness is cracking through his own expression, too. ]
So. Can I tell you something?
no subject
Uh... sure. What is it?
no subject
I kissed Ino.

We had something to talk about. Don't ask her about it, I've already kind of made a giant mess of things on my own.
no subject
Tadashi. Please. Do not mess this up. Come on. She's perfect for you.
[why does this make me happy]
no subject
[ and the next part is said with the kind of helpless laugh of a guy who has finally accepted it: ]
I'm dead. Nothing about this is a good idea.
no subject
Oh no, big brother. You can't start using being dead as an excuse not to live.
no subject
How long have you been waiting to use that one?
no subject
[he's starting to laugh, and he sets the food aside so he can sit on the bed on his knees and grab his brother's shoulders.]
Tadashi. Ino is the best at like. Everything. And she might actually like you. You are the lamest nerd ever. Please don't pass that opportunity up.
no subject
[ he gently shakes hiro off, standing up and intentionally making a mess of the younger boy's hair again as he does. ]
Eat. I'm heading to the lab.
no subject
The opportunity is for love, big brother!
[he says it as obnoxiously enthusiastically as possible, and he's kind of cracking up about it.]
no subject
[ tadashi takes a step back, clearing his throat a little uncomfortably. ]
I'll be around if you need anything. Just - be careful, yeah?
no subject
no subject
[ haha tadashi is showing his hand a little. :( ]
Promise me you'll be safe.
no subject
I promise. I'll be safe.

Good. Don't let me down, runt.
no subject
I won't.
no subject
There's no way you could.
no subject
... I know. [he doesn't sound like he knows.]
no subject
I mean it, Hiro. Maybe you drive me a little crazy sometimes, but I wouldn't change anything about you. You get that? Nothing.
no subject
Not even the cheese pillow?
no subject
Nothing, Hiro.
no subject
... I'm sorry I wasted all that time back home.
